A new start, a chance for change--isn't that what this summer is all about? Make this summer not just about surviving, but surviving the right way, by getting healthy by dieting and exercising yourself to an all new you. And that change for me started with Mari Winsor Pilates
I'm not a dietitian, but I did grow up in a family of over eaters. My father has diabetes, high blood pressure, and difficulty maintaining a normal body weight. I've witnessed him attempt every diet fad in existence--low card, no carb; however, they all failed because he was too "tempted" by his favorite foods. I don't blame him. I saw him try. But, he was raised to love food. It was his his pastime, and it was what he learned to turn to when he grew upset or stressed.
I identify with my father so much that I extra hard to find my own methods of keeping the weight off and my health strong. Why did I put forth such effort? Because there were simply days when I've literally cried myself to sleep because I was scared he wouldn't be able to walk me down the aisle or see his grandchildren. That is motivation. Ask yourself--are you headed down a path where your health might mean sacrificing time with loved ones? Is that extra serving or cookie worth the years you might lose?
So, how have we done it? How did my father actually get in shape as well and how did I keep from getting to that point? It's not by forsaking sweets, liquor, and meat. Taking out everything we love has just not worked. The days when I go without my favorites I crave them even more later on. Diet in moderation. Eat healthy. Exercise. Yes, I know that is a broken record, but there are programs to help you out. And that one program that I turned to was Mari Winsor Pilates.
Exercise, I confess that I hate this stage of getting healthy. I loath taking the time to go to the gym, and I absolutely abhor exercising in the cold. So, what do I do? I've found that purchasing the Mari Winsor Pilates DVD program worked great. It's private, so know one is watching you at the early stage. It's convenient, and you monitor when and how long you do it. I have to say that the Mari Winsor Pilates DVD series keeps you on your toes and raises your heart rate. It is so easy to follow. I have purchased programs in the past but when I pop in the tape I can't follow the instructor's moves because he or she is too advanced. Mari Winsor Pilates builds as a program so that beginners work hard, but as you advance you can still get a good sweat.
In addition to the Winsor Pilates workout, the Wii fit offers an interesting spin on aerobic exercise and balance. I recently acquired the program, and yes, it will get your heart rate up! It's not 30 minutes of non-stop exercise, but it allows the non-athlete to enjoy a good workout and learn to use your body. Although flexible, I've found it hard to do yoga at times or strength exercises because I don't hold the proper form. The program provides a central dot that indicates your central posture. It signals you to turn your body to correct errors and make sure you get the most out of the experience.
A dietary plan needs to include a healthy balance between what you eat and what you do. Use an excellent program like Mari Winsor Pilates that will keep you focused and find activities that will keep you moving. The world is changing. Shouldn't you also be allowed to enjoy it.
